Shaheen Azmi
Principal Barrister & Solicitor

"Originally from Mumbai coupled with Iranian heritage, I made New Zealand my home over 20 years ago. I hold a Bachelor of Laws from Auckland University of Technology and a Bachelor of Commerce from Victoria University of Wellington, majoring in Management, Human Resources, and Industrial Relations. I was also awarded a scholarship to complete a Diploma in Business Management in New Zealand. My legal journey began under the mentorship of senior lawyers, and since 2016, I’ve been committed to delivering strong, culturally informed legal representation. I was admitted to the High Court of New Zealand in 2019 and have since achieved a high success rate in the cases I have undertaken. I now proudly lead my own law practice, specialising in Family Law, Criminal Law, Humanitarian Law & Immigration Law. Fluent in Hindi and several other Indian languages, I bring a deep understanding of diverse cultural contexts—particularly South East Asian and Middle Eastern—which allows me to provide empathetic, inclusive, and effective legal solutions. In addition to my legal work, I have extensive experience in human resources, management, and compliance, gained across both Crown entities and the private sector organisations. I’m also an active entrepreneur and community volunteer, passionate about fostering strong, respectful relationships with clients and colleagues alike. At the heart of my practice is a commitment to justice, integrity, and cultural sensitivity, always striving to make a meaningful impact both inside and outside the courtroom."
